The site is located on the southwestern coast of Corfu , approximately four kilometers east of the village of Silver. As the main wetland on the island , is an important region for the protection of wildlife , especially the birds and for the conservation of native vegetation types observed .
Lagoon Korission covers an area of 6,000 acres of sandy soils and dunes where successive meet various bird species and it has been designated as a Special Protection of birds after they have seen 126 species of birds . Cormorants , Wigeon , Great Egret , flamingos , ducks and thousands of butterflies that attracts the salt saltworks .
By the Ionian Sea just off the ( beach Halikouna ) synthesizes a breathtaking landscape of water and dunes that finds the perfect completion at sunset . Only a few cottages around the lake which is really lagoon after a narrow channel connects to a point of the Ionian . In point with the sea , you will come across a rare small wood , cedar , white lilies and 14 different species of orchid in the sand .
